WebSpinners: Tales of Spider-Man #16
Plot: Last issue the Vulture kidnapped a little girl in order to extort some valuable jewels out of a family. Also Spidey is wanted by the police because he is suspected of creating a blackout.
Likes: I enjoyed a couple of Tyler's full page layouts. The one that sticks out is the two page spread of Spidey high above the city.
I also enjoyed Spidey using his intuition to find the Vulture. He used a different type of "spider-sense" and came up with the goods. Also the scene where Spidey is tossed off a building and he catches himself by clinging to the wall and running up against the side to ease off the momentum was very unique. I've never seen this used in the Spider-titles.
Dislikes: With all these semi-new items, this issue still had that "been there done that feel." Also, once again Peter took off his mask and exposed his secret id to a little girl. Sure it's just a little girl, but what is the point of a secret id if you take off your mask every other issue.
Rating: This issue was better than last, but still is average stuff. Two web heads out of four.

WebSpinners: Tales of Spider-Man # 15
Plot: The Vulture, aka the senior citizen with an attitude, it spotlighted here. It seems that the Vulture has a plan to steal a very expensive set of jewels. He creates a blackout in New York and gets away with the loot. But as always, a certain web head is there to stop him.
Likes: The Vulture is a fun villain. You have to feel sorry for this baddie. Most people his age are drawing social security, not our boy Toomes. He's not going out like that. Hey if Marvel ever gives me a chance to write a Spider-story, I've got the perfect plot. The Vulture "holds up" a pharmacy and steals some Viagra. Spider-Man then comes to the rescue.
Dislikes: Really this was about as average a comic as you can get. Spider-Man was your cardboard cut out Spidey. Nothing really special happened here. It's almost as if it's a cut and paste job. Insert Spider-Man here, paste Vulture here. Cut Spider-fight here. Anyway it was kinda ho-hum and a very forgetful plot.
Rating: I'm giving this issue one and a half web heads out of four. We've been here and done this plot before.

WebSpinners:Tales of Spider-Man #14
Plot: The best description of this issue is "Bad Spidey meets Bad Star Trek." Spidey is still stuck in the Negative Zone with Dusk and Blastar. Blastar, along with Carnage is trying to boost his power to an exponential number. Carnage also finds an old symbiote and becomes Carnage once again. Dusk and Spidey manage to defeat the duo all the while inching the title to cancellation.
Likes: Well, the staples were firmly in the comic. And they were nice and shiny too!!!! Oh and that bar code at the bottom right of the cover was cool. Try staring in it long enough, you may see pretty pictures!!!!
Dislikes: Where do I start? First off there is no explanation of Spidey's new suit. It's just an excuse to cash in on a canceled cartoon show. Also Spidey was so out of character that it wasn't even funny. His loss of Mary Jane wasn't even mentioned. I've had more plot development with an action figure. If you skipped this two parter, then you have five more dollars in your pocket than me.
Rating: This one gets a half a web head. My lowest Spider-rating ever. This issue proves that Mackie can't write three Spider-titles a month.

WebSpinners:Tales of Spider-Man # 13

Plot: Spider-Man ,while chasing after Carnage, is transported into the Negative Zone dimension. He encounters Dusk and Blastarr and changes his zoot suit.
Likes: Well, the milk mustache ad with Spidey on the back cover was cool. Even though I've seen it 500 times.
Dislikes: Everything about this comic was just bad. First off, what is Howard Mackie doing writing this title? This comic is supposed to be an anthology, where rotating creative teams give their take on the webbed-wonder. If I'm not mistaken this is Hackie's third Spider-Man title for the month. To top it off Mackie can't even find a period in Spidey's past to set this story.
Also, I really disliked the out of character Peter Parker/Spider-Man. There is very little mention of his loss of Mary Jane in this issue. Peter just proceeds crime-fighting as if nothing happened. Also that lame attempt to put that dumb Spider-Man Unlimited costume on Spidey. It was as if the action figure company Toy Biz suddenly took over writing and just placed a new costume on Spidey for the heck of it. While not even bothering with an explanation.
Sure it's an attempt to capture on the "Spider-Man Unlimited" TV show, but I don't understand that costume change either. I guess we can look forward to future Toy Biz plots involving a "Water-Spidey" suit or "Thermal-Socks-Spidey" suit. With the variant wool sock version for winter.
Rating: One out of four web heads. Unless your a died in the wool (man, another sock refernce.I'll be bringing up Tom Jones before you know it!) and have to have all the titles, then avoid this one and save your $2.50.
